Poetry is a literary tool to help students get a better understanding of literary elements, the impact of word choice, meter, and how to read with inflection. In the poetry unit students focus on figurative language and how to identify the authors purpose. In addition to reading and examining poems, students look at how poetry and music lyrics frequently have a deeper meaning the the words alone.
